A few questions before trialing Jabber in a large enviroment

I am looking at trying to roll out Jabber for use in our center (755 users) and if everything works out well roll it out company wide (15 offices, 3,000+ users).

I have spoken to the managers about this and they had two concerns that they wanted addressed before I go any further.

  • Is it possible to restrict agents from talking to other agents? We want agents to be able to initiate chats with only managers, and managers to be able to initiate chats with anyone.

  • Is it possible to have the Jabber client auto sign in with the users computer credentials forcing them to be logged in when they turn on their machine?

Thank you for the info!

Is it possible to

Yes! Here’s what I did.

Created a Restriced Group

Created a Manager Group

For the Restriced Group I disabled contact list group sharing. And I disabled the ability to manually add users their contact list.

For the Manager Group, allow contact list group sharing for only the Restriced group.

Hope that helps you get started.

Thank you for your answer. Do you have any idea on if the users will auto authenticate with the domain logins.

Packet Filter plugin should give you more power for restrictions.

As for computer credentials. Search for SSO (Single Sign On) in the forum. It’s possible with Spark and probably with other clients supporting SSO.
