I upgraded a users machine to 2.5.4. and the systray icon disappeared. User is unable to open Spark, even though it is running and they can receive incoming messages. Any ideas?

Yes, please help! I have had this happen with one user, could be more. Update from 2.5.3. System tray no longer appears.
One solution I am going to try is remove the users spark profile and see what happens.
I also experienced this problem. I was able to resolve the issue by uninstalling spark and removing the entire installation folder (C:\Program Files\Spark). I then reinstalled with spark 2.5.4 I did not have to remove the user’'s profile. I did notice they changed the system tray icon so there might be an issue with that.

I am having the issue both running as root and restricted user. Checked with JRE 1.5 and 1.6. I am running Ubuntu 7.04
Spark 2.5.3 did go to tray without a hitch.
i’‘m using the spark in more or less 600 windows machine’'s… some of them have also this problem when yupgraded to 2.5.4, still dont know the reason why, so now i have some with the 2.5.4 and all the others with the 2.5.3…
Whew, I thought it was just me. What I did was uninstall any version of Spark in control panel . (logged in as admin - . Windows 2000) I then re-installed spark 2.5.4 making sure IE was not running or any java apps. It works for me now, but I’'m nervous deploying it.
I was tinkering with that all yesterday and I was wondering what happened. I just went back to 2.5.3 and told my users not to upgrade yet.

I think I have it fixed (at least it is working for now)
User is an admin (Always was, but might be needed)
Ran uninstall and deleted c:\program files\spark
Ran a regcleaner program (CCleaner)
Copied install files to desktop
Made sure nothing with Java was running (Including jusched.exe from processes)
Ran the install.
I am thinking the Java part is most important (Thanks obiwansmith)
I moved over to what I thought was a more solid implementation of the system tray native logic. This was done to fix the 64 bit issue on linux, but apparently, for some windows users it’‘s just not working correctly. I’'ll investigate further to see what can be done to fix this. Might be a move to two different libs depending on OS.

No, I cannot do that due to the requirements of the mac which only supports 1.5. However, I’'ve been looking into a better plugin switch to potentially do that.

I just wanted to chime in as another linux user who lost the systray icon after upgrading to 2.5.4. There was already an Ubuntu user who brought that up, I am running Gentoo. I am using KDE 3.5.7 and my system Sun 1.5 JDK. If there are any more particular system libs which would be useful for you to know the versions of please let me know.
So the problem isn’'t just with windows !

So to understand this correctly, does the Spark client require admin rights on each pc? This is not an option for many networks. Thanks!

I use Spark without admin rights on a client with very strict AD policies and it works fine.

This is working for me in the following environment:
OS: XP and 2000
Users: restricted by active directory GPOs.
Log on to the computer as administrator and run Spark at least one time, opening session in Spark as the restricted user. Then log out, log on again as the restricted user and run Spark. Then the tray icon appears without problems.
