Hi.

I am unfamiliar with this procedure and can’t find much along the lines of a definitive upgrade guide. What is the best way to upgrade, while retaining all settings previously configured? I did not set the original server up in any way, but am tasked with upgrading to the newest rev.

The upgrade guide that is available seems to be limited to distros that use rpm’s. Nothing specific to Ubuntu/Debian (and I’m not a Linux person, but can usually work my way out of a paper bag).

Hi,

I did write http://www.igniterealtime.org/community/docs/DOC-1021 some time ago as I do not like the RPM way.I always install Openfire into a new directory without modifiying the existing installation. That allows me to undo an update if needed. But I must copy the openfire.xml file, certificates, plugins, … manually into the new directory.

Make a backup of your certificates, openfire.xml and the database before upgrading, that are the most important things.
