So I really thought AD authentication would be a good thing. When I upgraded to the current version I decided to start from scratch and go AD. It seemed to work just fine for a few days. Then nobody could login … two guys who had left thier machines on where in and working … so Openfire was just fine … it was just the authentication part. I checked the account we used for the authentication … that was working fine … Then I found the first problem. As my account was the Admin, and authentication was working I had no way to get into the console. I had to go the rather goofy route to turn the setup to FAlSE and start over. When I got to the AD part, put everything in … did the TEST SETTING … it was happy … and said ok … only to not be able to login when set up was finished.
Decided AD was not worth the grief … tried to re-do the install with the local account process … only it wants the PREVIOUS admin account … which was an AD account … so it will let me continue but then I can not get to the console. At this point I’m not sure what to do other than blow everything away and start over but thought I’d toss this out incase one of you more experienced users might know how to get around this.
Any ideas?
Also … I really do like the AD authentication … use it for a couple of systems and find it very useful but this thing just does not seem to work. Any documentation on this that might indicate why it stops working randomly?
