This file is in the range of 2 gig in size!!! What is this file and how can I get it under control??

Mine was at 800megs when I noticed it. What I did for now was I deleted it and created a new file with the same name. I would also like to know is if there is a way to change the default log directory and know if there is a way to rotate this file on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. By deleting the original file and creating a new one with the samename did not cause any issues logging into the admin site or the chat rooms. This is running on a windows2003 server with a dual processors and a gig of RAM.
