All contacts are gone for all users after moving AD users to an OU - OpenFire 3.9.1

I did update the LDAP path in OpenFire to reflect where the users are now ocated and all the AD users show up in the OpenFire admin console, however everyone lost their contact lists. I tried clearing all caches but that didn’t help. I’m thinking maybe OpenFire doesn’t know the users are the same people so its not tying their contact lists back to them again (MS uses SID’s to prevent this kind of thing, not trying to be a fanboy just giving an example).
