Am I on the right track for voip

Hi, I’'m not asking anyone to hold my hand as ive been using linux for about 3 years now, but I have never delt with creating PBX or voip servers. I am mainly hoping to find if I am on the right track.

I am part of a wireless community where we have quite a few nodes with links of about 2 to 5mbit links, and I was hoping to create a voip server so we can all “dial” each other over the voip phones (softphones/software) and orginise things or general chat, atm I have a server with Asterisk installed (not setup) Wildfire (works fine) and Asterisk-IM plugin installed (seems to work fine and logs into management) thats about it atm, is there anything else I need to install to get voip running to each other?, Im not interested in dialing out to the real world etc, but just to each other and just using voip.

any information or ideas, or if im totally heading the wrong way would be good.

Cheers

Rip

Asterisk, Wildfire, Spark, plus a good soft phone will work fine for this.

There are a number of good softphones

eyebeam (xten.com)

LoudHush (loudhush.ro)

I would also recommend checking out the http://voip-info.org wiiki if you haven’'t done so already.
