What settings do i have to edit in psi to connect direct to openfire. This is the first time i have seen these applications so any help would be appreciated.

you may want to ask such a question in a PSI forum. You need the server name and a user with password, if you don’t have an account you may want to create one first, so you should know the xmpp.domain of the Openfire server you want to use.
Maybe you can enter the user@servername within PSI or these is one field for the user and one for the server, as I don’t use PSI I have no idea about this.
