Broadcast Messagess

When you use the gateway plugin and send a broadcast message does it go to everyone even the ones throught the gateway? We send a ton of broadcast messages to each other, but at the moment we are using sperate IM clients for Wildire and AOL. Or is this something that maybe should be a feature request? Also how about a jabber gateway so you could talk to multiple servers that are not on your network?

The broadcast functionality in Wildfire only sends messages to actual users of the system (ie, under your Users tab in the admin interface). It would not be sending broadcast messages to legacy networks. I’‘m not sure this is something that the gateway plugin itself would do very well itself as it would need to be logged into the legacy network as a particular account to send any sort of broadcast messages. Likewise, many of them have rate limiting and if you started hitting up too many people you would start running into a lot of problems being temporary blocked, or even permanately blocked. I would say your best bet is probably to continue to log in to AOL with an account and send from there. That said, there’‘s no reason why you wouldn’'t log into an account via the im gateway plugin and then send out your messages from the connected account. You might even be able to put together a little plugin for Spark or whatever client you use that takes a distribution list and sends to all of them directly.

That is actually already on the list. =) GATE-74 That said, you wouldn’'t be able to broadcast across legacy network boundries here either.
