Can''t connect to db

I just downloaded jive messenger… I can’‘t connect to db… I want to connect to db I have locally on my C drive (I can connect to it successfully from my Tomcat apps…), but I don’'t see how I can do that if “admin” window is a remote address on the internet (http://127.0.0.1:9090/setup-datasource-standard.jsp) want to do everything locally on my c-drive on windows…

tried also to connect to db I have where my website is (again, can connect to it successfully w/Tomcat…) but I get following message:

The Jive Messenger database schema does not appear to be installed. Follow the installation guide to fix this error.[/b]

where is this “installation guide”?

thank you…

did you run the .sql scripts on your database for your selected DB server? Look in the resources folder of your Jive Messenger installation. You have to sculpt the messenger db first, so to speak.

thank you very much for yr response… I connected to “built-in” db and that worked fine…

however, how do I connect to server from client? what is address of server… sorry if these questions sound stupid, just getting started w/jabber… thank you very much…

Hi Frances,

I’'m glad to hear you got Messenger up and running.

The address of your server is whatever you told it to be when you were settng up Messenger. So, if you named your Messenger installation “mymessenger”, when you go to register a new account with a client you wouuld specify your Jabber ID (JID) as something like “frances@mymessenger”.

Hope that helps,

Ryan

ok, so what happens if you don’'t remember the name? when I go to admin now I get a 404…

however, I see this in console:

Admin console listening at:

http:// then Jeti asks for port no. (it self-populates to 5222, but well, here it says 9090… so, am CONFUSED…) either way neither 9090 or 5222 worked… again, many thanks…

Hi Frances,

In your client you don’'t want to enter the “http://” or the “9090”. So just enter @[messengerName].

FYI - The port 9090 is used when you try to access Messengers Admin Console via a web browser, port 5222 is what the client (Jeti) uses to talk to the server (Messenger).

Hope that helps,

Ryan

@[messengerName] for server name? man, I don’'t get it…

ok, I tried for server name…

port 5222 and userid and pswd and clicked register…

but no go (client works fine, I can connect to other servers…)

there are three exutables in jive-home/bin…

messenger.exe

messengerd.exe

messenger-service.exe

1st one opens a graphical console

2nd one opens a console that stays completely blank

3rd one opens another blank console that disappears after a few seconds…

wd be good if documentation explained what each one of these is for… I’‘m following a jabber book (the O’'Reilly one) I have so many questions, no forum to ask general jabber questions… ok, thank you very much for yr help…

Not sure about what you trying to do, but there is information about messenger-service.exe in docs.
