The next week to be released first beta of Asterisk 1.4 includes a completely new Jabber connection component.
Will this (or should this) change the very way Asterisk-IM works?
Is there any roadmap for Asterisk-Im planned?

Asterisk 1.4 still has the manager interface which Asterisk-IM uses to get call/status info. So, I’'m pretty sure Asterisk-IM should continue to work with 1.4. In addition, it should certainly be possible to extend Asterisk-IM to continue using the manager interface, but also be able to call people via asterisk through Jingle.
As you already know , it looks like that might be the plan already, although Matt only mentioned PC-to-PC calls via jingle. I’‘m hoping we’'ll also be able to plug it into our asterisk boxes.
I was browsing through the smack source a little and found some info on the Jingle branch of Smack here! My guess from looking at the first jingle check-in is that they might be decently far into development. Maybe?

I’'d suppose if Asterisk supports jingle then it will just connect to the Jabber server as a normal component or user (depending on the suport in Asterisk).
I don’'t see why Wildfire would need special support for this?
