External DB, MySql and encryption

I have read that I can do encryption for password if I use the external DB.

I am using the MySql for my external DB. How can I achieve the encryption of password that even the admin of the MySql DB would not know. I would really appreciate if anyone can help me out with that. I have been such a stranger to the DB, I have to struggle around 5 hours for setting up MySql DB for jive messenger.

It seems like my question is not really related to JM. hmmmm…

Setting up MySQL is a bit outside the scope of this forum… However, there is already a feature request in place to have more secure storage of passwords: JM-291
