Every day at first contact your homepage is awfully slow for me. This is just since a few weeks or so.

But it aren’'t just a few µseconds more than others … I klick on my bookmark to IR.org and read Heise or get some coffee.

Oh, I think what you might say: maybe it’‘s my connection! No, as I said, I read Heise during IR.org loading. And my bandwidth isn’'t too low, either (ADSL2+ 16.000).

So my guess is: you did something to this page. Perhaps some images are too large or the site system tries to download ALL images from ALL pages before showing them or there is a way to slow connection to the database or the site makes too many requests before accepting the connection or … something else.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I’'ve noticed this too, especially when moving around the forum pages.

Thanks for reporting this problem. We’'re having trouble reproducing the issue, but we did change the cache headers to a 1 week expiration for images recently, but that helped site speed from our testing. Do you have caching enabled in your browser and could the cache be full?

I deleted my cache and tried again - but it does not seem to change much.

Perhaps you could find the reason if I give you some more Information about my system:

If you find nothing, I will come back, too. But it would be much more fun if it would load a bit faster.

Actually this occurs very extremely if I did not visit your site for some time. So, perhaps it is the initialization of the first connection? or maybe the long way data has to run before it reaches either side.

5 seconds ago I contacted your Site for the first time today.

It was quite fast. Images were loaded from cache and the rest was there in a part of a second

Interesting… did you make any changes on your end? We have not made any changes to the server configuration.

humm, yeah - around 2:30am (at my place) I switched off the computer - and switched it on again about 10 mins before my last post. but else: no

Loading a thread list page with all caches filled requires downloading ~250 KB which takes up to 8 seconds here to complete.

The content table is not displayed until it has been completely downloaded.

As a workaround I’'ve switched to using the RSS feed so I only have to download the postings itself and not the thread lists.

I beg your pardon - must have been a temporary problem. now all works smooth and quite fast.
