Is it technically possible to run a presence service without adding the target users as contacts?

Hi,

I have been reading about the IM Presence Plugin and it requires to add the MSN users as contacts to retrieve their presence information.

  • Is it technically possible to do it without adding those users? or it’s a MSN network limitation?

  • Is it feasible to arrange some kind of contract with the network operator (e.g: Microsoft) to retrieve this information? Don’t know if companies like Colibria has this kind of agreement.

Hi,

which “IM Presence Plugin” do you mean?

I think it makes little sense to display the presence of users which are not in ones roster, no matter if it’s XMPP or MSN.
