Jive Messenger Process Count

I am new to the Jive community and have a question that I couldn’'t immediately answer through basic troubleshooting. I have the following configuration:

O/S: Gentoo Linux 2005.1

Java: JRE 1.5.0_05

Jive Messenger: 2.2.2

The server was very easy to configure and make operational. When I happend to do a “ps aux” on my system, I noticed the server spawned about 30 processes. Is this normal or configurable in any way. I wasn’'t sure why so many would be needed. I only have about 10 users on the system.

Thanks ahead of time.

There’‘s actually only a single “process”, which is the Java process. I think what you’'re seeing is that Java threads are shown in the process list of some Linux versions. There may be a way to change that behavior, but it would be an OS or Java thing rather than something specific to Jive Messenger.

Regards,

Matt

Matt,

Thanks for your response, it makes sense. One of the odd things I noticed is that some of those threads have different CPU consumptions at different times, which made me think they are all separate processes.

Try “ps faux” (with an f)

You’‘ll see much better the tree os your’'s process.

It’‘s normal, don’'t worry.
