Jive Messenger to be Open Source!

Hey all,

We’'re pleased to announce that Jive Messenger is going to be Open Source. The Open Source release will happen as soon as we can finish cleaning up the code and will be released as Jive Messenger 2.0.

In the meantime, the final release of Jive Messenger 1.1 is now immediately available as a free binary. The 1.1 release has some very significant improvements including MUC, Service Discovery, Data Forms, and numerous bug fixes. A full changelog is at:

More information about the Open Source announcement and the 1.1 download can be found at http://www.jivesoftware.org.

In the coming weeks, we look forward to providing more details about the new features we have planned for Messenger.

Regards,

Matt

good news!!!

Wow.

I think this is really fantastic news! The state of OS Jabber servers is pretty sad, in my opinion. I’‘m really jazzed that Messenger, which looks to be a really solid product, is going to be OS’'ed. I hope it gives the Jabber community a well-needed kick in the butt!

That is fantastic news ! I am totally disappointed with jabberd 2.0 with big load of memory leak problems and others. I am looking forward to getting source code and participating in development

Indeed. (Though, FYI, there’'s a patch set for jabberd2 that fixes the leaks.)
