If you setup OpenFire to use LDAP and you have id’s like ‘zx@email.com’ , it seems OpenFire doesn’t escape them when you try to log-in.
If I log-in as ‘zx\40email.com’ it works…

By the way, this looks similar to the issue described here:
http://www.igniterealtime.org/issues/browse/JM-703?focusedCommentId=14016#action _14016
I got the same problem, i`m also using user@foo.com as username.
When i setup openfire (setup wizard) i can add myself (paszczus@foo.com) as admin but after setup is finished i cannot login as paszczus@foo.com even with \40.
In logs (while trying from Gajim) using paszczus@foo.com:
javax.security.sasl.SaslException: PLAIN authentication failed [Caused by javax.security.sasl.SaslException: PLAIN: user not authorized: paszczus]
bump
Can I get a response on this one? This is pretty much a blocking issue from us using OpenFire.
