MySQL or PostgreSQL for new server?

I am going to be setting up a Jive Messenger server in the next month and was wondering, between MySQL or PostgreSQL what was the more perferred database on a Linux server.

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of each, and how supported is each in the community?

I’‘m not sure if one is preferred over the other. Those of us at Jive Software test with both, although perhaps with MySQL a bit more. I would go with whatever database you’'re more familiar with.
