New To Wildfire, Quite Lost

Hey everyone…

I am not going to lie, I have very little idea on how I am supposed to do what I have been asked at work, but I heard that Wildfire should make my job easier, so here goes…

What I have been asked to do is set up something so that users on our site would be able to speak with one another, basically an internal IM system built into our site… I have been told that Jabber is a good place to look and that Wildfire is the best Jabber server out there…

After this I am totally lost and I cannot find anything on the internet in terms of a tutorial on how to go about my task. At this moment I have installed the Wildfire Server and I have it up and running…

It’'s kind of a “now what” situation for me… does anyone have any tutorials or sites they could guide me to so that I might get a kickstart with this project?

Thank you,

Congrats for picking Wildfire! You made a great start.

Next you need to get an IM client installed, have a look at http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/spark/index.jsp

You can create a few users using Wildfire admin console and get some conversations going.

After that you have to consider your requirements.

If your company uses LDAP or ActiveDirectory you can hook up Wildfire to authenticate against it, no need to maintain a separate set of users!

If your company requires secure comms, you need to enable SSL/TLS

Info on this and other options is at http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/wildfire/documentation.jsp

This should be more than enough to get you going

Conor.

I’'m getting the hang of it now, this is a great resource!!
