We have set up an openfire server and everything is working except the file transfer, basically we can send and receive files without any problems from the same lan but if we try to send a file from a lan to a different one it gives an error.
We tried disabling the Windows firewall but we are still having this problem.
Any ideas?

File transfer has degraded in 2.8 branch. You can try 2.7.7 version if you absolutely need it. https://github.com/igniterealtime/Spark/releases/tag/v2.7.7
You can also try the latest nightly build and enable In Band Bytestream only in the preferences. http://www.igniterealtime.org/downloads/nightly_spark.jsp
