*NOT WORKING* Openfire 3.7.1 server on Lion Server (os x 10.7.2)

In doing some research on the InterWebs, I found this post:

I recently moved my Openfire 3.7.1 server to Lion (os x) from windows xp. Everything seems to be ok except when I try to start the service from the system preferences. I click start service and it won’t start. keeps coming up stopped. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I’ve searched and came up with nothing.

Other than this post, I’ve not been able to find any trace of this issue - but I know I’m not the only one, so - HELP!

This is a fresh install of both 10.7 and 3.7.1. Other services (afp, netboot) are working fine, so it’s not DNS related.

Console says:

1/6/12 3:01:14.055 PM bootpd: service time 0.000028 seconds

Hmmm - “Already loaded”?!?!? Perhaps, but I can’t log in to the admin cosole.

And:

1/6/12 3:02:14.943 PM com.apple.launchd: (org.jivesoftware.openfire) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Over, and over, and over - ad infinitum…

I realize 10.7 Server is a wonky framework to begin with, but that’s what we’re using (or not).

Please advise…

So, after loggin into the root account, installing Java (to activate web apps in Java preferences), and running permissions - it worked.

And then didn’t when I restarted.

And then did when I reinstalled (from root account).

And still does (even after a restart)

Go figure…
