I set up a server with Ubuntu Server 11.10 and added the gnome desktop. Downloaded the dev version from the website and the installer said that it installed but cannot locate it in the software list. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Well it looks like either Ubuntu Software Center doesn’t know Openfire or Openfire doesn’t know anything about the Ubuntu Software Center. The latter most probably, i think. Deb installer building script is probably very old and not aware about the new Ubuntu/Gnome versions, so it is not registering in the software list, or maybe it never had. Anyway, you can run it by /etc/init.d/openfire start command (with sudo of course). It should be possible to add this exec to startup, but i’m not that good with ubuntu/linux.
