Openfire 3.7.0 install fails on Mac OS X 10.6.6

Hello,

I downloaded the OS X package and tried to install. At the end of the install it says “The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.” I’ve attached the relevant lines from the install log.

Any suggestions?

Regards,

Michael

Hello,

Just to mention, getting the exact same problem here (in Mac OS X 10.6.6 Server as well)

Interesing, found that /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.jivesoftware.openfire.plist gets its ownership attributes changed to “_unknown” as the owner after the failed install. Have to change it manually to “system” before 3.6.4’s services can be started again.

I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. The 3.7.0 install on Mac OS X 10.6.6 failed, and when I try to install 3.6.0 it will not install because it tells me that a newer version is already installed.

I can’t get OpenFire running now on any version.

If the 3.7.0 install failed for the same reason if failed on the posts here, you shouldn’t need to reinstall whatever version you had before, it should still be there.

If the version of Openfire you have won’t “Start”, it could be due to the file I mentioned above as the cause for that.

Hopefully there will be a fix for 3.7.0, can’t wait!

The installer looks like it creates /usr/local/openfire, /Library/PreferencePanes/Openfire.prefpane, and /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.jivesoftware.openfire.plist. If you delete those it should be able to install the old version.

Here is what I see with that file:

-rw-r–r-- 1 404 staff 916 Mar 2 13:14 org.jivesoftware.openfire.plist

If I need to change it, could you tell me how please.

I deleted both the prefpaine and the plist file, but 3.6.0 still says it can’t install because a newer version is installed.

ouch.

This hurts.

So fortunately, 3.6.4 installs just fine - no warning about a newer version installed.

Will be nice to upgrade to 3.7.0 when it installs for me fully.

We’re tracking this issue as OF-431.

Could you try downloading the installer again? We replaced the one that was there with a new variant, that should fix this issue.

The new installer works as expected! Thank you for a quick fix, I look forward to digging deeper into what I can accomplish with Openfire.

Regards,

Michael
