Openfire Reference Platform

Hi- I’m working on a physical architecture for an XMPP server farm based on Openfire. I’ve looked around in these discussion but found nothing definitive on the topic of performance and scalaing (lots of statements about 10K+ or clustering or connection managers, but few specifics).

So my question is this: Is there a reference plaform for Openfire with specific scaling numbers?

For example: Intel Xeon dual core 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, blah blah, Linux RH X.X = 12,500 concurrent users with “typical” chat behavior

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

You might want to use Jive’s Openfire requirements page as a starting point, even though the numbers they give are on higher end are on the conservative side. I think it would be reasonable to expect to be able to double the number of concurrent users by simply by doubling the amount of RAM.

Hope that helps,

Ryan

Ryan- thanks, that’s what I was looking for.

2 points of clarification:

  • How is a “concurrent user” defined in terms of usage? X chat messages per

hour of Y chars in length?

  • I assume the processor speeds are for Intel Core Duo or Xeon? These are

Sparcs or old Pentiums, are they?

Cheers,

Dan
