even if you’'re not colorblind the difference is not easy to see
It should be possible to design some new bullets which are more user friendly, where the recognition is based on symbols/shapes instead of colors.
Making a suggestion or giving an example will help the admins a lot to find the right solution. Maybe something like “!” for new, “o” for updated and “square root/checked off sign” for read is fine for you?

Maybe a simple ‘‘n’’ and ‘‘u’’ inside the bullet? The problem is the size: it will increase the size.
