Hi Pedro,

Maybe you can post some more lines, probably in your native language?

I walt build a public server with dns hosts
HELP ME!
Oi Pedro,
You can post your question in Portuguese so we (I) can understand more what you are trying to do. Do you need some help configuring your DNS server? You will need to create SRV records for the server name and each hosted service (e.g. group chat service). For instance, if your server name is example.com and your group chat service is conference.example.com then you will need to create SRV records for both domains. Clients will perform DNS lookups to find the real IP address (and port) of the server before connecting. Remote servers will perform a similar operation although they will connect to port 5269. If you are using a firewall then make sure that ports 5222, 5223 and 5269 are opened.

Hi Gato,
I did never set up SRV records and Wildfire runs fine, a normal DNS record should be fine for a 0815 public server. Otherwise a lot of people would have trouble to get started and one would probably like to include a DNS-Update for Windows within the Windows installer so one can use Wildfire after installation.
DynDNS may offer wildcard subdomains, so *.foobar.dyndns.org would be fine for xmpp.domain=foobar.dyndns.org

Hey LG,
I described what the XMPP specification defines. Wildfire and I guess most of the clients out there will try is an SRV DNS lookup to find the real IP address and port to use and if that fails then the entered domain will be used to open a socket connection. Anyway, not using SRV records may still break some s2s connections and some c2s depending on the client being used.

Hi Gato,
we’‘re abusing Pedro’'s thread …
This statement may not be found in the Installation Guide and I’'m sure that some jabber admins are not aware that they must set up SRV records. Is it possible to add it to http://www.jivesoftware.org/builds/wildfire/docs/latest/documentation/install-gu ide.html ?
So one could also explain how it is possible to use the same domain name for different services like web, email and xmpp. Some admins still use another domain for xmpp than for email or web.

Já agora, qual é o tipo de dns host para fazer um servidor ??
Oi Pedro,
Is your server running? Which platform/operating system are you using? Do you see anything in the log files? You can use netstat -a to check if Wildfire is listening in ports 5222, 5223, 5269, 9090 and 9091. You may also want to open those ports in your firewall. As LG said, if users inside your LAN will be the only ones connecting to your server then you may not need to set up a DNS server. You can just use the IP address of the machine as the server name. Or you can define a domain name and use it as your server name. You can then edit the hosts file of each client to point to the server. If you want to use a DNS server then just check if your operating system includes one. You can also download and install one if you need to.

Hi Pedro,
I assume you already have a DynDNS or No-IP DNS name like foo.dyndns.org and that you update it regularly.
Set this name as the xmpp.domain of Wildfire, this can be done either during installation or by setting the server property xmpp.domain. If you have created MUC’'s or something like this it may cause trouble to change the xmpp.domain, so a fresh installation would be much better.
Open port 5222 of your WinXP firewall if you have enabled one, if you also own a router open port 5222 and forward it to the IP address of your WinXP server to port 5222.
This should allow one to use your server with normal clients, if you want to enable old SSL open port 5223 and for server-2-server also port 5269.

My question isn´t resolved
Please Help Me!
Hi,
did you set up a No-IP DNS name like foo.no-ip.com and do you update it regularly.
Did you set the xmpp.domain of Wildfire to it?
Did you open the WinXP firewall (and router ports)?
As you may want to answer all questions with yes I wonder where your problem is.
