Problem starting openfire as a service

Good day. I recenly installed openfire 3.3.1on my fedora 6 box. Initally i started it using the script in the bin directory and set it up fine on the command panel. The problem came when I set it up to start as a service. When I start it as a service and go into the control panel, it is as if it was not set up previously. After going through the steps, it then comes up with a java error. Please, where am I going wrong?

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I have no idea what went wrong, it may help to read http://wiki.igniterealtime.org/display/WILDFIRE/LinuxInstallationGuide and cross-check your installation.

Is the environment for the service setup the same as the environment when you ran it using the script in the bin directory? Having a different environment (ie PATH differences, JAVA_HOME difference, …) are typically the thing that causes a failure when converting from a manually run script to a service script.
