Problems with connecting to Yahoo

I’ve changed the host and port frequently and that is not helping. What I realize is that I need to uncheck and check the tranport on the gateway settings to force the connection to work, I tried the reconnect on disconnect and that is no help. Otherwise, after 5 min or so, I loose the connection and my client will throw the following error:

“You are not currently logged into the YAHOO transport.”

any ideas? I tried all of the above reply to this thread.

BTW, my msn and aim is working without any issues. Only yahoo…

thanks

For what it’s worth, many collegues and I have been experiencing the same issue using multi-protocol clients like Pidgin, Trillian Astra, and Adium. That being written, I really don’t think there’s a problem with the IM Gateway plugin, per se – it seems the issue is within Yahoo’s messaging infrastructure.

Really? Whenever we’re having these problems, I’ve had my users just turn on a direct client of some sort, and it has always worked. They’ve used the official client, Adium, and Pidgin. Maybe we’ve just been lucky.

That said, I haven’t had any problems since I switched my host to scsa.msg.yahoo.comhttp://scsa.msg.yahoo.com and my retries to 20. Well, I did get a single “Failed to log into Yahoo! messenger account” error sent overnight, but I haven’t had any user complaints since the switch.

All,

My users are experiencing issues communicating to Yahoo users via Spark/Openfire. Some of the same symptoms experienced above are happening with us.

We’re currently using 3.6.3 version of Openfire.

Namely:

When I click on the Gateway console, after restarting the Gateway plugin, I receive the Java exception that TheAngryPenguin described.

Eventually, my users can connect to Yahoo but when they send a message, they will periodically receive the message “You are not currently logged into the YAHOO transport.” as discussed by hfaouaz.

Here is something that I haven’t seen discussed. When my users can connect and are sending messages to Yahoo users, the recipient of the message can see them typing but after Enter is pressed, the message doesn’t show up. This happens regardless of the recipient’s client. When sending messages from Trillian to Spark the Spark user doesn’t always get the message.

About a month ago, I was having a problem with my Yahoo accounts connecting when using Pidgin. I went to Pidgin’s website looking for an update and there was one. It had a sub-title saying “Yahoo issues are fixed in 2.5.8.” The following links discuss the issue more in depth. These links discuss Pidgin and Yahoo but I felt they were of use here.

Essentially, the above posts say that Yahoo isn’t allowing connections using an older protocol. The time frames of Pidgin issues seem to match with what users are experiencing here.

I guess I’m looking for some validation on this. Will upgrading to 3.6.4 and the Kraken gateway solve the issue?

I found the following thread on the Kraken website:

http://kraken.blathersource.org/node/135

It looks like they are aware of the issue but don’t have a fix implemented.

I’m trying to get my users off their multiprotocol clients and over to using Spark exclusively but this limitation is preventing users from wanting to move over as you can imagine.

The Kraken website suggests other plugins are available to connect with Yahoo. Does anyone know if one of those plugins resolves the issue?

Thanks for your time.

The Java exception error that TheAngryPenguin discussed occurs when I launch the OpenFire Server icon while running the Windows service. They are incompatible. Running the OpenFire Admin Console link yields a better result. The exceptions do not occur for me at that point.
