Project Status

What is the current status of the Spark project? I found this quote from wroot in a post from May:

“Of course, this doesn’t mean it will be implemented soon. Currently there are no active developers for Spark, so we depend on volunteers providing patches.”

I’m looking to contribute some time to this project, but want to make sure there’s still someone reviewing patches and that there will, at some reasonable point, be a 2.7.0 release.

Thanks,

Will

The best way to check project’s status is probably checking the git repository https://github.com/igniterealtime/Spark

Last update was 2 months ago, but it was just some travis support files. Then it was a language file update. Actual code change was 3 months ago (658 build http://bamboo.igniterealtime.org/browse/SPARK-INSTALL4J). Unfortunatelly i haven’t heard from Jason for a while. Another active contributor has also left, because his company switched to web clients (Mircea). So, currently there is not one active contributor (well one more person has promised a few more patches like 4 months ago, but no news from him either). There are no lead developer for Spark for 2+ years. Walter is a nominal lead, but he is not active anymore. So, i think there will be nobody to review your patches. Well, i can at least test them, but i can’t check your code quality

Oh, and about 2.7.0. It can be released today and can be released after 2 years. The code now is pretty stable (using it in production). But there are some big issues like broken audio chat and others which would be nice to get fixed before releasing new major version. But as there are no active developers…
