Spark does not prefer 5223 and if you specify port 5223 in Advanced tab before registering, it still communicates on port 5222.
Isn’'t 5222 always unencrypted?

Yeah, this a bug :(. I’'ll ge this fixed in the 1.1 release coming out Feb. 7th. Sorry about that, but keep them coming. Tracking issue with SPARK-171
