I’'m setting up an internal server for my software development group (in-house only), and have a couple of questions for you experienced Jive folk
.
My server machine runs Suse 9.2: does anyone have running Jive on Suse?
Should I use the tar or rpm distro?
I need the server to automatically accept new account requests.
I need the existing list of users to appear to anyone who creates an account. Is this what is meant by shared roster?
I want to use mysql for auth & db.
Can Jive meet my needs as above?
Thanks for help
Hi julianop,

running Jive on Suse?

While I haven’'t done it personally, I did a quick search of forums and it looks like people have successfully installed Messenger on Suse with the rpm, I would guess the tar works fine as well.
I need the server to automatically accept new account
requests.
Yes, this is configurable via the Admin Console.
I need the existing list of users to appear to anyone
who creates an account. Is this what is meant by
shared roster?
Yes, but out-of-box Messenger does not support the automatic addition of new users to a specified roster/group. However, the next version (1.1) of the url=http://www.jivesoftware.org/messenger/plugins.jspregistraion plugin[/url], which will be released soon, adds this functionality.
I want to use mysql for auth & db.
Yes, for databases Messenger supports MySql, Postgres, Oracle, DB2, SQLServer and HSQLDB (both embedded and external. Messenger also supports LDAP and POP server authentication.
Can Jive meet my needs as above?
Sounds like it.
Hope that helps,
Ryan
Thanks for the help Ryan. Yes, it looks like this will do the job perfectly.
I wish I hadn’'t spent so much time trying to get Jabber2 to run.
