REST API Plugin: NullPointerException when setting MUC group affiliations

When I add “mygroup” as admin to “myroom” in the Openfire Admin console and then execute a GET for http://[server:port]/plugins/restapi/v1/chatrooms/myroom/, I get the expected result:

myroom

...

** **

** mygroup**

** **

When I try to PUT the exact same payload though, the request fails:

HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error

The Openfire error log contains:

When I empty the element, the PUT requests succeeds.

Tested on Openfire 4.0.3.

Probably you are looking for that: https://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/plugins/restapi/readme.html#add -group-with-role-to-chat-room

Ah, you’re right, I didn’t notice that.

It is a bit surprising though that the room endpoint isn’t symmetric: one can read an entity containing everything including affiliation groups, and one can create and update everything BUT the affiliation groups. As described in a bunch of API design guidelines (e.g. GitHub - tlhunter/consumer-centric-api-design: LaTeX: CC Book on HTTP API Design §3.6 “Responses should Resemble Requests”), I think that could be improved

Best regards,

Mike
