Server configuration for 1000 concurrent users

Hi all,

I would like to know what server config i should choose for about 1000 concurrent users??

I’'ve found one of a jabber server config in jabber.org:

Machine: “athena” (Dell Poweredge 1850)

CPU: Dual P4 Hyperthreaded Xeon CPUs (2.8 Ghz)

RAM: 4 Gig

Network: Dual Gig Ethernet

Pipe: Dual OC3 (hosted by NetConnect)

Location: An underground bunker somewhere in Iowa

OS: Debian GNU/Linux, 2.6 kernel

Server: ejabberd 1.0

Database: PostgreSQL

Bytestreams: Proxy65

Gateways: None – use Jabber! *

It have Connected Users: 5211

is that suitable for:

wildfire + MySQL + Fedora Core + WebMessenger-Hosted + 1000 Concurrent Users?

Hi cs,

These forums are geared towards helping people with url=http://www.jivesoftware.org/wildfireJive Wildfire, not ejabberd. For help with ejabberd you’'ll probably have better luck posting your question to their url=http://ejabberd.jabber.ru/forumforums or url=http://ejabberd.jabber.ru/mlistmailing list.

Hope that helps,

Ryan

PS - For what’'s worth, Wildfire could easily handle 1000+ concurrent users using that hardware.

cs_cklab, I would say that server should be plenty of power for 1000 connections, but it sounds like you are wanting to publish a web-based client from the server as well. If that’‘s true, then it’‘s hard to say if that would be enough. My hunch is that it would be enough, but I don’'t use web-based clients, so what do I know.

Thanks Cameron - I guess no more posting to the forums after midnight for me.
