Some spark users can not login

Hello,

A little background information… I’m running Openfire 3.7.1 w/LDAP integration, using built in db, and spark client 2.6.3.

All has been working well until a few days ago, some users can’t login to spark. I noticed the Java Memory was 98% used, so I increased the memory limit from 256mb to 512mb. Users still can’t login.

I have checked firewall logs on our sonicwall as the users who can’t login are in a different physical location (they were able to login before) and I don’t find anything in the logs.

I can ping the openfire server from the other network. When I try to login with my username, I get the spinning circle and it says “Authenticating”, it does this for a awhile, and then says “Invalid username or password.”.

I’m stumped, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

LL

are they the same users or different users?

What do you mean? The users that can login, can log off and back on just fine.

The users on a different network can not login. I’ve verified that the network is not the issue, the issue has to reside on the server.

Thanks,

LL

sorry…does it always the same user that can’t sign in, or is it random. for example. joe can never sign in or joe was able to sign in yesterday, but not today?

It doesn’t appear to be random. I remoted to a PC on the other network, tried to log in as me(I have a admin login and a ldap user logon), and I get “invalid username or password”.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

LL

so, you can sign in from your workstation, but if try from another computer on another network, you can’t. is that correct?

Yes, that is correct.

Spark/Openfire has been working from this other network just fine for the past 2 years, and all of the sudden it isn’t.

I’ve verified that I can telnet to 5222 from the other network.

Thanks,

LL

sounds like a network issue or maybe dns? what happens if you use your openfire server ip instead of host name? is it only 1 subnet that is having the problem?

I’ve tried the IP as well, with the same result.

There are two subnets, and it is only 1 of them that can’t access.

Thanks,

LL

what do your logs look like from openfire and spark. have you taken a wireshark capture yet?

The error log is empty.

im still thinking its some sort of network issue. If it was a server issue, it would likely fail for the same user on the network
