Support for Publish-Subscribe in Smack?

Hello Everyone,

I am working on a number of applications(!) which will require a Publish-Subscribe mechanism. Is there any intention to fold Jabber Publish-Subscribe into Smack? If so, when?

Colin,

Pubsub certainly fits into the goals of the functionality we want to provide with Smack, so we will likely support it at some point. However, we need to finish basic protocol support first. The pubsub spec is still pretty young anyway, so it won’'t be a bad thing to give it a bit of time to mature.

Quite understandable! After investigation (on the standards-jig list), I realised that the standards are indeed “quite young”. Good to know that you are on the case (as usual) and that Smack will be supporting pub-sub in due course!

In the meantime, I guess this necessitates the use of a multi-address message forwarding scheme as a work-around.
