I currently have a 21KB PNG file as my avatar and wanted to switch to a 3KB JPG, but upon trying to do so am informed by Spark that “The image is too large to use. Please specify an image 16k or smaller.” The JPG is smaller in resolution, dimensions and bitdepth than the PNG.
It should be noted I am using Spark 2.5.5 with an OpenFire 3.2.2 backend hooking into AD, using the LDAP VCard plugin to allow avatars, so it’s possibly an issue with the plugin rather than Spark, depending on how the two interact.
