Total Browser based Client?

Is it possible to build a totally browser based client (using SOAP and javascript) i.e. so the user doesn’'t have to download a java client?

If it is possible - are there examples that I could look at?

What about flash based client? Then users will have to install flash player for their browser, which almost everyone already has. There is one project which have derived from XIFF API (http://www.jivesoftware.org/xiff/) and is based on XIFF 2.0.0 Beta 3 (with some tweaks). Well, project is only at planning stage, though there is a working beta version made by one of developers. More info:
