I currently have a WildFire installation version 2.5 which badly needs upgrading to the latest version. I am using the embedded DB. Are there any documents or other resources for making sure this goes smoothly? There are a lot of forums posts about 3.0 to the latest but none for 2.x versions.

updating is claimed to be easy.
Shutdown Wildfire and make a copy (backup) of your wildfire directoy, as it contains also the embedded db you have a complete backup.
Install the new version without uninstalling the current one.
Restore conf/wildfire.xml if it was overwritten.
Start Wildfire - it will update the database.
Look for errors in the log files to make sure that everything went smooth.
