Wildfire_2_5_0.war + jwchat-1.0beta2.war + FC4

i’‘m pretty sure i’'ve googled this to death – so here goes:

gracias amigos.

Hi,

you should have a tomcat5w.exe application which shows up as an icon in the TNA, left to the clock. If it is not running you can start it manually.

The create a wildfire_init.xml file option did never work for me also.

LG

i’'m running FC4 Linux without a gui. no windows here.

Hi,

this should make it even more easy. I don’'t have access to my linux tomcat installation right now, but I did specify the -DwildfireHome=/home/… java option somewhere.

I don’‘t use the default startup.sh or catalina.sh start scripts to start tomcat so I don’'t have the details available, but it may be possible to use “startup.sh -DwildfireHome=/home/…” to supply this value. Or you need to edit one of the scripts…

LG

I’'m running tomcat5 – startup with:

  1. /usr/bin/tomcat5 start

Usage: tomcat5 ( commands … )

commands:

debug = Start Catalina in a debugger

debug -security = Debug Catalina with a security manager

jpda start = Start Catalina under JPDA debugger

run = Start Catalina in the current window

run -security = Start in the current window with security manager

start = Start Catalina in a separate window

start -security = Start in a separate window with security manager

stop = Stop Catalina

stop -force Stop Catalina (followed by kill -KILL)

version = What version of tomcat are you running?

doesn’'t look like you can pass args in on startup…i dunno…

Hi,

you could make a copy of the /usr/bin/tomcat5 script and then use an editor to edit the original. There should be a “start” section where catalina.sh is called with a lot of parameters and you may add “-D…”.

LG

tried that idea.

same 404 error

this blows – i thought .war files are supposed to make your life easier[/i]?

: |

Hi,

what is the 404 error in detail? Are you not seeing the install web page? For wildfire_2_5_0.war it’'s http://localhost:8080/wildfire_2_5_0/

Or do you get the WifiHome not defined message?

LG

here’‘s tomcat’'s 404 page –

HTTP Status: 404 - /wildfire/[/b]

type Status: report[/b]

message: /wildfire/[/b]

description: The requested resource (/wildfire/) is not available.

Apache Tomcat/5.0[/i][/b]

that’‘s all i get – it’‘s like nothing’'s there.

Do you get tomcat default home page when you try http://localhost:8080 ?

no – i get a blank page, actually. I thought that was wierd, but i don’'t know what it means, since some other pages throw the Tomcat error pages. Does this mean anything?

^BUMP!!

heres my catalina.out – first i stopped tomcat – then restarted…

[/nobr]Hi,

please look on disk in Tomcat’‘s folder webapps for existing subfolders and use them in the URL, so you’'ll likely find a page -> Use http://localhost:8080/wildfire_2_5_0/ as URL. I may assume that you did not configure Tomcat to map /wildfire to /wildfire_2_5_0/ and your file is called wildfire_2_5_0.war. Or rename/copy your file to wildfire.war as you did it with jwchat.

LG[nobr][/nobr]

i tried it like that right after i dropped the .war.

went to the deployed file path – 404.

The thing is is that the jwchat .war deployed with name jwchat-1.0beta2 – i went there with the browser and it worked. i renamed it to just jwchat – went there – even without restarting tomcat – worked. Tomcat is smarter than you think.

frickin’’ stuck.

[/nobr]Hi,

I’'ve got a webapps/wildfire/index.html file and a .jsp one and both are found. You may verify that they exist and add them to the URL, http://localhost:8080/wildfire/index.jsp

I’‘m using a “standard” (.tgz extracted to /home/foo/ as I don’'t have root access to use /usr/) Tomcat 5.5.x installation, and Wifi runs without problems (except the -DwildfireHome= var which one must set - but it has nothing do to with the 404 error).

LG[nobr][/nobr]

yeah – index.jsp is there, 404 if i browse directly to it. i have -DwildfireHome… in the tomcat startup script, too. maybe i should delete everything in webapps and start from scratch? The wierd thing is, is if i goto http://hostname:8080/somewhackfilename.jsp – all i get is a blank page – no tomcat error – however when i goto http://hostname:8080/wildfire – i do[/i] get a tomcat error page. so something must be working there…

Hi,

this could be a problem with permissions, but as long as Tomcat can extract the files it shouldn’'t be one. I have no idea about the default Tomcat RPM installation.

If you really want to start form scratch then it may be possible for you do download apache-tomcat-5.5.15.tar.gz and extract it as a normal user (not root) to let’‘s say /home/zeuben/ ? There you should find apache-tomcat-5.5.15/bin/startup.sh which should start Tomcat if the default Tomcat is stopped as the same ports are used. Adding the war files as a normal user makes sure that the permissions are right. There’'s no need to stop Tomcat because of the lovely hot-deployment feature.

LG

its not permissions because everything tomcat related is owned by tomcat:tomcat. i dunno – all the other webapps work fine.
