could anyone tell me if openfire / spark will run on windows server 2008 64bit

They should. At least, I dont see any reason why they would not.

I know Openfire will for sure. I installed and tested Openfire 3.6.0 on Windows Small Business Server 2008 RC0 which uses Windows Server 2008 Std x64. Everything worked properly using the internal database.

Hi jpeach It works like a charm, just take care with users permisions of the user that runs the Openfire service it must have write acces to the Openfire installation folder.
