We’'re using OpenFire (running on Mac OS X, with LDAP to our xserve) on a mac mini as our internal communication platform - we selected it over the OS X Server Jabber service. When using iChat to connect to Openfire, is it possible to have audio (and ideally, webcam) chat? Or does this only work with a specialized client?

video and audio support is always an issue of the client, no matter if you use a Flash (for example: Red 5/audio+video), Java (for example: Spark/audio) or C (for example: Google Talk/audio) based client as the client device has the audio and video devices.

To answer your question about iChat + wildfire, yes Audio/Video works fine. We use iChat+wildfire at our office and use Audio/Video almost daily.
