Bizarre behaviour and errors on Win2K server install

I have been trying to install Wildfire on a Windows 2000 server, but it has been giving me serious errors, and I have not been able to get it to work.

The setup routine seems to run without a problem, as does the initial configuration (I use the embedded database), but, when I come to try to use the administration panel, I get an HTTP 500 error when I try to access the “users/groups” tab, and a “java.lang.NullPointerException” whenever I try to access the “sessions” tab, the “offline messages” tab, and the “message audit policy” tab. Also, despite having set the server to allow remote registrations, whenever I try to register using GAIM, I am told that it cannot establish a connexion with the server.

Then, whenever I stop and restart the service, it won’‘t let me access the admin console at all, giving me an HTTP connexion error, as if the service wasn’'t running at all.

The same behaviour is exhibited whether I run it as a service or as a background application.

I tried updating to the latest version of Java, restarting the computer, uninstalling it and reinstalling it several times, all to no avail.

I notice that, when I uninstall, the /wildfire directory is not completely expunged. When I try to reinstall, unless I delete that directory, it won’'t even let me access the admin console the first time around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

the first error you are seeing in the error log may be interesting.

Interesting as in you’'d like me to post it?

(I am now at home, and the computer is at work, so, if you do want me to post it, it will probably have to be next week now, as I am not going into the office to-morrow).

Hi,

so next week will be fine … and posting it here also. As most installations run fine it’'s hard to guess what did go wrong.
