Chats just don''t start [w/ Spark 2.5Beta]

Hi,

I installed both Spark 2.5’‘s Beta1 and Beta2, but with none of them I can chat. It shows the contact lst properly, but then, if I try to doubleclick one of my contact no chat window appears. I’‘ve also tried to by right clicking the contact and choosing “Start a chat” (on the Italian release it’'s “Avvia una Chat”), but nothing happens. As you can easily argue, this issue makes it unusable. Any clue ?

Thanks a lot!

Could you please post the OS you are running on and the error logs (Help | View Logs). This will help me determine the issue.

Thank You,

Derek

I am also having the same issue as merydian. I have Windows XP Pro Sp2 on my desktop and laptop. It does not work for each. We are running Wildfire 3.1.1 in production and the new 3.2 release in testing.

This log is from my laptop. The chat window for a person came up but did not work properly. I closed it and it does not respond at all.

Hi guys,

This is caused by a failure to contact www.apple.com during a DTD validation that I thought I had fixed I’'ve filed the issue for Beta 3 SPARK-502. You can check the progress from there. Also, since you are behind a proxy, you may try and update your http proxy settings in the advanced tab of the login screen.

Cheers,

Derek

thanks for the quick reply!

Indeed! Thank you very much!

I’‘m having this issue with 2.5.0 release. Strangely enough, if I remove my “Spark” folder in my homedir and reopen Spark, it works fine. However, I don’'t want to force all my users to do that. Here is the stack trace it spits out upon failure to open a chat window:

Replying to my own post…

It seems my problem was due to the fact that the emoticons need to be unzipped when Spark is launched for the first time. I installed Spark as the admin user but didn’‘t run it. Upon running it as a normal user (with no permissions to write to the application’'s directory), Spark exhibited the previously described behavior. Running it once as the admin user fixes the issue for me.

Might I ask why the images are zipped up in the first place?

Thanks,

Jeremy
