Client does not receive messages

I’‘ve installed openfire 3.3.2 in my FC5 box, I used the ip address instead of the hostname, I also created two test users for test messaging but sad to say, it doesn’‘t work, the messages from user1 was not received and vice versa. I also tested sending an administrative message from the console to all the users and the users were able to received it, I was wondering though why the former is not working while the latter can. I can’'t find any meaningful explanation in the forum to resolve the issue. If somebody had a similar issue, will you be kindly enough to share how you were able to resolve it? TIA.

btw here are the error logs from the admin console:

Hey Jan,

In XMPP the user account is defined by the username and the server. So for instance if your server name is example.com then accounts hosted by that server will be like john@example.com or paul@example.com. When a user wants to add another user to his roster (contact list) or just send a message to another user you have to specify the correct address, that is username and the server and not just the username.

Regards,

– Gato

Hi Gato,

It worked! I appended the ip address( i used ip address instead of hostname) to the username and whoala, the user received the message.

Thanks very much.

Jan
