Duplicate names in roster

Hello,

I am running

  • Openfire 3.4.1 on WinXP Pro with LDAP to a MS AD Domain

  • Spark 2.5.7 on WinXP Pro

  • Java JRE 1.6.0.30 (Java 6 Update 3)

I see duplicate names in my roster. Sometimes they even briefly have different statuses, i.e. the same name will show both online and idle for a few moments. I have no idea what causes this or how to approach resolving it.

Mark

It is a bug in the 2.5.7 version and is resolved in 2.5.8 beta1.

Hi bf2007,

That did it.

Thanks for the quick response!

Are you sure that this isn’t a server issue? I’m having the same issue with the Pidgin client (2.3.1). Running OpenFire 3.4.2 with internal db on Windows Server 2003 R2, using LDAP (Active Directory) for authentication. Users cannot create accounts – only those coming from ADS can authenticate.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Accounts have to be created in AD as Openfire can only read not write to AD.

I know. That’s why I’m surprised by duplicate names in the roster – because it should be read only. So in some cases we are seeing two of each member. The one “on top” can be deleted. It is always “offline.” It’s not a question of us trying to create accounts in OpenFire via the client, much less our attempting to write to AD. I’m just trying to figure out why the dupes.
