Help! OF won't start - got weird error message

Hello,

see attached pic of the error message i get when fireing up openfire.

Never saw this one before and for me i does not make any sense. Only the hint antivirus software or firewall could block openfire from starting - if i figured this out correctly.

What i’ve done: I installed two Windows Updates, rebooted the System and tried to start openfire - got the weired error message.

I’ve installed those two updates:

Any advices? Thanks in advance!

Never seen before - something seem to be broken.

The error log may contain more info. Or try to start Openfire with bin/openfire.cmd

Thanks for your reply. First of i deinstalle MS Security Essentials and rebooted. No effect. Couldn’t find something o interest in the error log.

Starting openfire using cmd revealed some useful information:
Error occurred during initialization of VM

Could not reserve enough space for object heap

The JVM could not be started. The maximum heap size (-Xmx) might be too large or

  • an antivirus or firewall tool could block the execution.*

Well, interesting. Then i found out, that my customized vmoptions-file is somehow missing. I created a new one but no openfire only would like to start up if i significantly decrease the -xms -xmx settings. That’s bad because of this setting openfire runs very unstable.*

Try a 64bit JRE if this is a 64bit server with 32bit JRE.

FYI The Hardware of the Server is capable of 64-bit. How ever, the installed version of Windows Server ist not. Want to migrate asap but there is no in-place upgrade from switching 32-bit to 64-bit os, so i need time for a clean setup…
