Horizontal split chat layout?

Hi, I am new here. Up until yesterday did not know about all these softwares.

I am looking for a chat client modification so I can show one-one conversation in a horizontal split layout. I need to show one chatter on the left side, the other on the right and perhaps other actors’ input would show up on both sides at the same time.

Can this be done or have been done already? If has not been done, how hard would it be?

Anyone? Ideas?

The reason I am asking is because I have some innovative uses for chat apps. I am not dreaming on a killer app. But, to have different layouts is something already in ICQ. However, other than layouts there are a couple of features to be added that would take chat apps, logging and message interpretation to new heights.
