I need help getting the connection manager to work

: I get an error

Error: JAVA_HOME environment variable not set, Connection Mangaer not started

did an echo %JAVA_HOME%"

and it shows my path C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin

so I don’t understand could someone help
