Invalid Username or Password w/3.5.2

Just installed OpenFire 3.5.2 (no previous install) and Spark 2.5.8 on OS X 10.4.11. Logging in through web admin works fine. Logging in through Spark fails for both “admin” and the created account “test01”. Registering an account through Spark also fails. Trying to connect using other apps and my own project also fails.

Spark shows the following interaction with OpenFire for when in:

I’ve tried different XMPP.domain values such as “sictransit.local” and “example.com” (with a corresponding /etc/hosts entry to point to the right address). What’s going on here?

Just removed 3.5.2 and installed 3.5.1 with exact same results.

Complete wipe and reinstall results in a new error response of “not-authorized”. A lot of searching points to this being a possible problem with Cyrus-SASL implenentation on OSX. No further progress. Tigase or EJabberD, here I come!
