Is there a plugin to log conversations to the DB?

Is there a plugin to log conversations to the DB? I have a project that needs to archive 2+ years of conversations.

I am considering making a plugin to do this. If I were to do this, where in the current source code is the appropriate place to put my “hook” to capture conversations? Any thoughts on this? I’m just looking for a hint or two… I can handle all the other details myself.
